Tile Tech’s Top 5 Porcelain Paver Products

There are dozens of invaluable benefits to porcelain pavers: impressive durability, resistance to staining and discoloration, low maintenance requirements, versatile design options, and much more. They’re what make porcelain pavers one of the best-selling paving slab options on the market. But with so many amazing variations to choose from, how do you know which is best for your project? To get you started, here are five of Tile Tech’s top products from our industry-leading Porcelain Paver Series.

1. Travertine Series Porcelain Pavers

Tile Tech’s Travertine Series of porcelain pavers perfectly replicates the sophisticated appearance of a natural travertine stone with enhanced functionality and a reduced price tag. Whereas natural stone can be exorbitant in price and susceptible to wear and tear, Tile Tech’s Travertine Porcelain Pavers are resistant to stains and freeze-thaw cracking. They also have sufficient strength to be used for high foot-traffic commercial applications without worry about chips, cracks, or color wear.

2. Slate Series Porcelain Pavers

Tile Tech’s Slate Series of porcelain pavers has been uniquely designed to reproduce the texture, color, and finish of natural slate without any of the high maintenance requirements. With four neutral color tones to choose from, each product’s textured top surface is developed from actual sections of natural slate for an authentic look and feel. However, the slate-effect porcelain pavers have all of the practical benefits of porcelain, including fire resistance, frost resistance, stain resistance, and slip resistance.

3. Wood Plank Series Porcelain Pavers

If you want the appearance of a natural hardwood floor without the impossibly high-maintenance requirements for outdoor applications, Tile Tech’s Wood Plank Series porcelain pavers are the perfect solution. Made from 100% fired porcelain, Tile Tech’s Wood Plank porcelain pavers offer an innovative, high-tech alternative to both natural and composite wood and timber decking products. The simulated slats give the appearance of individual timber decking slats on a continual anti-slip surface, which makes installation and maintenance a breeze. Choose from natural, teak, or mocha finishes for a fireproof, low-maintenance, and fade-resistant option that is as cost-effective as it is aesthetically pleasing.

4. Terrazzo Series Porcelain Pavers

Designed to mimic the natural beauty of granite, our Terrazzo Series gives your porcelain paver surface a granite-like appearance with added slip resistance. Not only will the speckled finish add depth and texture to your terrace or deck, but it will combine more than one tile color and create even further visual interest. Choose from 10 unique shades ranging from white to deep charcoal for a paving solution that complements your building and the surrounding landscape.

5. Trellis Series Porcelain Pavers

How Much Do Porcelain Pavers Cost?

If you’re renovating your home or business, you want your new patio space to look as modern and well-finished as possible. That’s why porcelain pavers are one of Tile Tech’s best-selling products. However, luxury looks are usually accompanied by luxury price tags, which is why many of our customers’ first question is: how much do porcelain pavers cost? It’s understandable that you want to make sure you stay within your budget for the project, so knowing what costs to expect before you dive in will help you better understand what your end product will look like, as well as what decisions to make along the way to save money without sacrificing quality.

Porcelain Paver Cost Factors

The biggest factors that will determine the price of your porcelain pavers are size, color, and finish. Larger tiles will cost more than smaller cuts due to the increased amount of material as well as the greater weight. Having to handle a higher weight during the shipping and manufacturing process will result in higher-end costs for the customer. The type of material will also change the price, depending on how expensive it is to manufacture. For example, certain wood-look tiles will be more costly than stone-look tiles, and plank-style pavers are generally more expensive than the more common square tiles. Porcelain pavers created specifically for heavy-duty applications will also cost more than the average exterior paver.

Porcelain vs Concrete Paver Cost

Most of our clients are left with a decision between porcelain and concrete paving tiles. Concrete has a lower initial cost, making it more attractive to clients at first glance. However, porcelain’s higher quality and lower maintenance requirements give it a greater overall value. Porcelain pavers are resistant to temperature fluctuations, moisture, mildew, scratches, color fading, and more. They never need to be re-sealed and boast an impressive lifespan. When factoring for long-term costs, porcelain pavers remain the better value and superior choice.

Installation Cost

The value of the pavers themselves isn’t all you have to consider. However, the installation cost will also factor into your overall budget, and so it should be taken into consideration when choosing your paver material. What size is your project? What is the existing landscape like? Can you install it yourself, or will professional contractors be necessary? When it comes to porcelain pavers, Tile Tech’s adjustable deck supports make installation a breeze, so you may be able to install it yourself or reduce the cost of professional installation by reducing the required man-hours. This easier installation can afford you a more costly tile option or just save you money on the project overall.

If you want to transform your residential or commercial outdoor space with porcelain outdoor tiles, there’s no better way than to go with Tile Tech’s porcelain pavers. We boast one of the largest selections of porcelain pavers on the market, with dozens of different colors and finishes that are guaranteed to suit any project. Paired with our adjustable deck supports, they’re an easy and affordable way to upgrade any patio. Give us a call today at (888) 380-5575 to find out more or to place your first order. We’re always happy to provide a product sample, catalog, or free project quote.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Installing Porcelain Outdoor Tiles

Attempting home renovations on your own can be a daunting task, especially if this is your first experience with DIY. However, not everyone has the budget to hire a professional team for their residential patio or deck installation. If you plan to install porcelain outdoor tiles in your backyard, but you’re unsure of where or how to start, follow these steps for an easy and beautiful porcelain paver installation.

1. Mark out the area

Before you start handling the tiles, you’ll need to mark out and prepare the area where you’re going to install your new patio or deck. Measure out the area, and mark it with posts and string. Multiply the length and width of the area to calculate the square footage, then multiply that figure by 1.1 to allow 10 percent extra space for cuts and wastage.

2. Prep the area

Once you know exactly where the tiles will be placed, you’ll need to prepare the area to ensure a long-lasting installation. This may mean digging out the area, adding a sub-base, or leveling the surface with supports like Tile Tech’s adjustable deck pedestals, depending on your existing terrain and hardscaping. Make sure that you create a small slope to allow for proper drainage. Not having sufficient run-off space can result in pools forming on the surface of the tiles, which can make them slippery, dirty, and generally dangerous.

3. Apply the mortar

You’ll need to add a layer of mortar between your base and your tiles in order to give the tiles something to adhere to. This is a mixture of sand, cement, and water that is spread over the entire area. Make sure your mixture is able to bind together without any visible moisture — this means that you’ve achieved the right texture for the job. Once the mixture is created, spread a thick layer across the marked area.

4. Prep the tiles

Once the area is fully prepped, you’re ready to start handling your porcelain pavers. Since porcelain pavers are nonabsorbent, they’ll need a primer applied in order to ensure proper adhesion to the cement base. Combine slurry powder with water and mix for three to five minutes until you have a smooth, lump-free consistency. Apply this slurry primer to the underside of your porcelain tile with a brush or paint roller in thin, even layers.

5. Lay the tiles

Once each porcelain outdoor tile is primed, begin laying them one by one. Your first tile is the most important, so take extra time to place it correctly. Make sure that you start in a corner, using a wall or your marking string as a clear edge. It sets the angle for the rest of the patio, so it needs to be perfectly lined up. The concrete base should give you some time to adjust the tile if needed. Once the first tile is set, continue down the row, priming and laying each tile with the same precision. Leave a 3 to 5 mm gap between each tile, using spacers to ensure accuracy and consistency.

6. Grout the tile

Once all of the tiles have been placed, give them at least 12 hours to set. During this time, do not step on the pavers. Once they’ve set, it’s time to grout the tile. The grout serves as a waterproof barrier for the tile, so be generous in your application. Push as much grout as possible in between the tiles, and smooth it over the top. Clean off grout residue every few tiles as you go, so it doesn’t harden and become difficult to remove later.

Whether you’re a DIY master or a first-time patio builder, Tile Tech makes it easy to create a level and beautiful outdoor deck or patio. Our porcelain pavers are high-quality, long-lasting, and, best of all, easy to install. Pair any of our porcelain outdoor tiles with our adjustable deck pedestals for a foolproof installation that can be completed in as little as a few hours. Why Building a New Deck is Better Than Re-Decking

Between weather changes, foot traffic, and regular wear and tear, the average residential deck lasts about 20 years. If you’ve had your deck for 15 to 20 years and it’s looking worse for wear, you may be considering restoring or replacing it. But how do you choose between a less-expensive re-decking and total deck replacement? Here are a few things you should consider when deciding whether to restore or replace your home’s outdoor deck.

1. Longer Lifespan

Restoring your aging deck can certainly bring back its original visual appeal, erasing visible signs of wear. However, it won’t reverse any structural damage that may have occurred over the decades since its initial installation. Old deck foundations may be damaged or simply not up to modern building codes, making it a danger to your household, especially as the years progress. By building an entirely new deck, you can ensure that your deck will safely last for another 20 years and stay up to today’s building code requirements. It will also allow you to take advantage of a full warranty that covers the entire deck—including the foundation—rather than a limited warranty covering only the new decking tiles, as you would receive with re-decking.

2. More Functionality Options

The modern homeowner demands more from their outdoor space than they did 10 to 20 years ago. Today, entire outdoor kitchens and living areas are being constructed for year-round relaxing and entertaining. When you restore a deck with a foundation that’s 15 to 20 years old, it likely won’t have the strength to accommodate a true outdoor kitchen. When you build a new deck, however, you’ll have a brand new foundation ready to support whatever your household’s outdoor entertaining needs are.

3. More Design Options

Re-decking will allow you to restore your deck’s original appearance, but likely nothing more. This means that the deck will show its age in its dated style. When you build an entirely new deck, the sky’s the limit with creative possibilities. Whether you want a two-story deck, a freestanding deck, a covered porch, or any other exciting style, you can achieve whatever you envision when building from the ground up. When you opt for re-decking, you’re committing to the same dated deck style for another 10 to 20 years.

4. Greater Overall Value

Many homeowners first consider restoring their deck when it begins to wear out due to the lower initial cost versus building an entirely new deck. However, total deck replacement is proven to have greater overall value once you factor in improved lifespan and the increase to property value. Additionally, there are many options for decking that are affordable — sometimes more affordable than deck restoration. Tile Tech pavers bring down the cost of rebuilding a deck through our easy-to-install paving system, including our hybrid pedestal pavers. By choosing Tile Tech’s paving system, you’re significantly reducing the number of man hours needed to complete the project, reducing the largest portion of the overall cost. In fact, Tile Tech paver installation is so easy, many homeowners even opt to do it themselves, further cutting the cost. If you want to receive the greatest return on investment possible, installing a new deck with Tile Tech pavers is the ideal solution.

Tile Tech offers hundreds of customizable paver products that are guaranteed to suit any home’s or business’ needs. From roof decks to raised decking, we have everything you need to complete your project to the highest standard while saving time and money over alternative paving solutions. How to Get a Natural Looking Hardscape Without the Upkeep

Many commercial and residential establishments tend to love the look and ambiance provided by natural stone, but hate the upkeep. Tile Tech Pavers carries an array of advanced alternatives to natural stone pavers, that will give you that natural hardscape look you want, without having to worry about porosity or sealing. But which natural stone alternative should you choose? To help you decide, we’ve outlined the three most popular types of natural stone paving tile alternatives and how they’ll benefit your commercial property.

1. Travertine Pavers

Travertine has been used to elevate architectural designs since the era of Ancient Rome. The even, light beige color of travertine pavers enables them to make any hardscape look lighter, brighter, and more spacious, making them a popular choice among home and business owners worldwide. Travertine comes in a variety of tones and textures that can give your landscape an old-world look or the feeling of a Mediterranean oasis. Travertine is a great paving solution for roof decks due to its ability to retain its color even when exposed to harsh conditions and constant weather changes. It’s an extremely durable material that offers an unparalleled aesthetic appeal that will elevate the design of any home or business.

2. Quartzite Slate Series

People who are drawn to our Quartzite series are typically looking for that American-mined stone paver beauty and incredible durability. Our Quartzite series comes in a variety of natural earth tones that will complement any residential or commercial design. Whether your look is rustic, traditional, or contemporary, there’s a Quartzite Slate paver that will match your needs. These pavers can be cut in uniform sizes and shapes for a neatly installed deck or pool area, or they can be cut into irregular shapes and sizes for more free-form applications such as walkways and garden paths. It’s also incredibly long-lasting, making it a worthwhile investment for any property seeking the appeal of natural stone pavers for its landscaping.

3. Rustic and IPE Wood Series

If you’re aiming for a rustic, natural landscape design to complement your commercial or residential project, our Rustic Wood Series and Wood Deck Tiles are a perfect choice. Tile Tech’s range of porcelain pavers features not only simulated timber plank finishes but also a unique range of simulated weathered wood finishes which replicate the appearance and features of natural reclaimed wood but without the disadvantages of fading, twisting, warping, decay, and poor fire resistance inherent in natural wood. Their lightweight characteristics also make them easier to transport and install, making them a great option for projects involving high-rise buildings. Similarly, our Wood Deck Tiles are designed for constructing raised wood decks over exterior surfaces such as rooftops, terraces and plazas, in both residential and commercial applications. They come specifically designed for installation on adjustable pedestal supports, allowing you to build perfectly horizontal deck surfaces over sloping or irregular surfaces with no problem at all.

Although we’ve addressed 3 types of paver alternatives for a natural look, Tile Tech carries a range of other options as well. If you’re ready to transform your outdoor deck with travertine pavers, Quartzite pavers, or one of our wood options, look no further than Tile Tech. We offer high-quality paving tiles in a range of colors and finishes, and our adjustable hybrid pedestal system makes installation a breeze. Raised Deck vs Freestanding Deck: Which One Suits You Best?

Many homeowners believe that a deck is a deck, and they’re unaware that there are different types of decking to choose from. There’s the traditional ground-level deck that most homeowners picture, but there are also options such as raised decks and freestanding decks. How do you know which style is right for your home? We’ll break down the benefits of each to help you decide which deck style suits you best.

What is a Grade-Level Deck?

The most common type of deck is a grade-level deck. This style is what most people envision when they hear the words “outdoor deck”. It’s a ground-level platform attached to your property that provides an exterior walkway, usually through a rear patio door on the home’s first level. While this is an option that suits many homeowners, it may not be the perfect fit for all.

Raised Deck

Based on your personal preferences as well as the architectural style of your home, you may prefer a raised deck. A raised deck is similar to a grade-level deck in that the deck is attached to your property, but it protrudes from the second story of your home rather than the ground level.

Raised decks are an ideal choice for homes that have the main living space on the second level, or homeowners who desire a deck outside of their master suite rather than the living space. It can also provide additional outdoor entertaining space to enjoy since it gives you access to the area under the raised deck.

Many homeowners considering raised decks believe it to be out of their budget, but Tile Tech can make this patio design stunning yet affordable. We pair our industry-leading deck tiles with our innovative hybrid pedestal system for installation that will be completed on time and on budget. Our pedestal system is designed for use with concrete pavers, porcelain pavers, and ipe wood deck tiles, so you can achieve whatever look you desire. Whether you do it yourself or hire professionals, Tile Tech’s hybrid pedestal system and raised decking tiles make it unbelievably easy to install, drastically reducing the hours and labor required to complete your project.

Freestanding Deck

Another popular deck style is the freestanding deck, also known as a detached deck. As the name suggests, a detached deck is not attached to the property at all, and instead can be placed wherever you want within your yard.

The freestanding deck helps create the feeling of a secluded oasis, offering an escape from street noise or neighbors while still providing a comfortable and level area to relax or entertain. You can place your free-standing deck next to a pool, in the middle of a garden, or wherever your yard gets the most sun. Freestanding decks are ideal for those with larger backyards or families who want to create a personal retreat within their own property lines.

If you want to create more usable outdoor space for your family to enjoy, choose Tile Tech’s innovative paving system. By using our deck tiles in conjunction with our hybrid pedestal system, you can level out even the most uneven terrain and create the perfect personal oasis. To find out more about our product selection and how our paver system works, give us a call at (888) 380-5575 or fill out our online contact form. Why You Should Consider Travertine Porcelain Pavers for Your Pool Deck

Travertine pavers are one of the most popular options for pool decks and pool coping tiles throughout the country. As a natural stone, they exude luxury while adding a light and airy Mediterranean flair to any pool deck. However, natural travertine pavers can be extremely expensive and temperamental when it comes to wear and tear. Tile Tech’s innovative Travertine porcelain pavers offer homeowners and property developers the same beautiful and luxurious appearance as the natural stone, but at a fraction of the cost and with even greater functional benefits. Here are just a few reasons why you should consider travertine porcelain pavers for your pool deck renovation.

More Affordable Pricing

One of the biggest reasons why clients choose porcelain outdoor tiles for their pool deck is because of the price. Luxury stones can be incredibly costly, and they have higher long-term maintenance costs versus porcelain paver alternatives. Tile Tech’s travertine porcelain pavers offer the same luxury look, but they cost far less. They also require less maintenance and repair, which further reduces long-term costs in addition to the initial investment cost. If you’re on a strict budget and travertine pavers aren’t within it, consider travertine-style porcelain pavers instead for your pool deck.

Enhanced Safety & Comfort

Porcelain pavers aren’t just the budget option; they also offer superior functionality. Porcelain offers greater safety benefits for your family and guests, such as slip-resistance. Whether the area is wet or dry, you can rest assured that pool deck visitors are safe from slipping and falling, especially compared to natural stone pool deck tiles. They also remain cooler to the touch than natural travertine or darker-colored porcelain tiles, keeping bare feet more comfortable during the scorching summer months.

Blends Indoor & Outdoor Living

Travertine pavers are a popular flooring choice for interior renovations as well as exterior deck tiles. By choosing travertine porcelain pavers for your pool deck, patio, and living room, you can create an indoor-outdoor living area that makes your home feel bigger and brighter. Maximize your entertaining space by creating a seamless transition between your home and your pool deck. You can even choose matching pool coping tiles for a completely uninterrupted pathway from your patio door to your pool.

Low Maintenance & Long-lasting

If you have a high-traffic property, you want a pool deck paver that can handle it all. With Tile Tech’s porcelain pavers, you can enjoy a solution that offers unparalleled durability while further enhancing your property’s luxury appearance. Our travertine porcelain pavers are resistant to frost, fire, thermal shock, color fading, and water damage. They’re nonporous to resist staining, and they have extremely high slip resistance. This makes them perfect for use as pool deck pavers, ensuring the safety of guests and family. They’re also extremely lightweight, making them easy to install even in commercial rooftop applications.
