Tile Tech is the industry leader when it comes to rooftop decks and wind uplift pavers and pedestal considerations. In 2013, Tile Tech was chosen as the company to work with a leading academic institution, for an academic research study and a large-scale test on wind uplift of roof pavers and published in the Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics.
In this experimental study, researchers investigated the wind loading on concrete roof pavers on the flat roof of a low-rise building. Wind blow-off and pressure measurement tests were conducted on top and bottom surfaces of roof pavers using the 12-fan Wall of Wind (WOW) facility at Florida International University. The study was undertaken with 12″ x 12″ x 1″ thick concrete pavers. Wind blow-off tests and pressure measurements on the top and bottom surfaces of the pavers were performed focusing on net pressure distributions and an examination of the ratio of the spacing between pavers to the pedestal height on the susceptibility to blow-off.
